Coreopsis Lancelata, also known as Sand Tickseed (some people think the seeds look like ticks) or Lanceleaf Coreopsis, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. It reaches 2 feet tall and flowers from May to August with exuberant drifts of yellow blossoms. The foliage is mostly low and mounding when not in flower.
 
Lanceleaf Coreopsis prefers full sun, dry soil and will grow in clay, loam or sand, even dune sand. This plant is perfect for difficult pine areas and jack pine as it will grow in dappled shade. Tolerates high mowing and can be incorporated into alternative lawns. Can spread enthusiastically by seed in dry areas and out-compete plants that struggle in dry soil. Plant it on the edge where it can spread into lawns or fields. This is an ideal plant for naturalizing meadows in the central UP and other sandy areas.
