Ceanothus americanus, New Jersey Tea, is a perennial wildflower native to Michigan. New Jersey Tea reaches 3' tall and flowers from June to August with stubby bursts of very delicate white flowers. It prefers partial shade to full sun, medium to dry soil, and will grow in loam or sand. It can fix nitrogen, making it a good choice for improving poor soils.
New Jersey Tea is a great pollinator plant and good chrysalis support for butterfly gardens. It's a popular host plant for butterflies and moths, and also supplies hummingbirds with nectar.
