A member of the Rose family, Black Chokeberry is a wetland native shrub that is adaptable to a variety of conditions. This upright, colonizing shrub, blooms white flower clusters in spring, that are followed by glossy black fruit that persists into the winter. Fermenting the berries makes them tastier. Black Chokeberry shows off its beautiful red leaves in the fall. Black Chokeberry are a favorite to grouse and bear, and provide food and shelter to a variety of wildlife. It is also used for windbreak and erosion control.
