The contents of this 24 oz spray bottle definitely repel insects, but it is more correctly described as an insecticide because it kills insects on contact. It is meant to be used to treat clothing. It's particularly effective against ticks because they must crawl on the host before attaching.
 
Note: The active ingredient, permethrin, is safe when used as directed on humans older than 2 months. However, it is highly toxic to cats and will kill ALL insects it comes into contact with (including helpful species such as bees).
